IMMIGRATION LAW IN BARBADOS

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS

Every person entering Barbados should be in possession of:

· A valid passport; and

·A valid return ticket.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Countries Requiring Visas:

The citizens of the following countries require Visas to enter Barbados:

 

Afghanistan, Algeria, Andorra, Angola.

Namibia, Nepal, Niger.

Bahrain, Benin, Bhutan, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Burundi

Oman.

Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, China, Comoros, Congo.

Pakistan, Paraguay, Philippines.

Djibouti, Dominican Republic.

Qatar.

Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia.

Rwanda.

Gabon, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau.

San Marino, Sao Tome & Principe, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Somalia, The Sudan, Syria.

Haiti, Honduras.

Taiwan, Thailand, Togo.

India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire).

United Arab Emirates.

Jordan.

Vatican City (Holy See), Vietnam.

Kampuchea, Kuwait.

People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen, Yemen Arab Republic, Yugoslavia.

People’s Republic of Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya.

Zaire.

 

Madagascar, Monaco, Macau, Morocco, Mongolia, Mozambique, Myanmar (formerly Burma).

 

Types of Visa, Validity and Cost:

  1. Single Entry Visa: This is valid for 3 months and it costs BDS$50.00
  2. Multiple Entry Visa: The maximum validity period for this visa is 2 years and it costs BDS$60.00

All non-nationals require Student Visas to pursue studies in Barbados, which are only issued by the Immigration Department in Barbados for an application fee of BDS$100.00.

Documents Required for Visa Application:

The following documents are required while applying for a Visa:

  • 2 Completed Application forms;(Applicants must complete a form in duplicate)
  • Valid passport;
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the stay;
  • Two passport-size photos;
  • Stamped self-addressed envelope if applying by post;
  • Fee payable by cash or postal order;
  • A Valid Return ticket.

A Business visa requires work permit and letter from host or company in Barbados.

The Immigration Department has the right to demand further documentation as per the requirement.

The Visas may be obtained from any of Barbados' Missions overseas.

Visitors are not permitted to engage in any occupation or to accept any employment during the period of their stay.

Documents Required for Visa Extension:

The Applications for extension should be made to the Chief of Immigration in Barbados.

The following documents should be submitted with the application:

  • One passport size photograph;
  • A valid passport or travel document;
  • A valid airline ticket;
  • Evidence of means of support;
  • Application fee of BDS $25.

PERMANENT RESIDENT

Permanent Residency is granted to only those persons who:

·have had immigration status in Barbados for at least 5 years; and

·provide tangible evidence that they are not likely to become a charge on the nation.

The Applications for permanent residency should be made to the Chief of Immigration in Barbados.

BARBADIAN CITIZENSHIP

A person may acquire Barbadian citizenship through one of the following methods:

1.By Birth: A child born in the territory of Barbados acquires its citizenship irrespective of the nationality of the parents.

2.By Descent: Citizenship is granted to the following:

·A child born abroad, in wedlock, whose father is a citizen of Barbados provided the child is registered with the nearest Barbadian diplomatic representative.

·A child born abroad, out of wedlock, whose mother is a citizen of Barbados provided the child is registered with the nearest Barbadian diplomatic representative.

 

3.Registration: A Foreign woman, married to a citizen of Barbados, may apply for citizenship through registration.

4.Naturalization: A person may acquire Barbadian citizenship by having a longstanding residence of at least 5 years.
