ESSENTIALS FOR APPLYING FOR A VISITOR VISA
  1. Have a valid passport
  2. Have enough money to support yourself during your visit
  3. Intend to stay in Canada for a temporary period only
  4. Complete an application form
  5. Pay a nonrefundable processing fee at the time you apply
  6. Separate passport is needed for children
  7. Principal applicant, spouse and all unmarried children under 18 years of age are to be included on one form.
  8. A separate form is required for each dependent over 18 year of age.
KINDS OF VISITOR VISA

SINGLE ENTRY, MULTIPLE ENTRY, TRANSIT VISA

A single entry visa allows you to enter Canada only once. This visa may also be used for repeated entries into Canada from the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon. Such entries must occur within the time allowed for your stay in Canada.

A multiple entry visa allows you to enter Canada from any country as often as you wish during the validity of the visa.

A transit visa is required for travel through Canada to another country by those persons who need a visitor visa and whose flight or bus will stop in Canada for less than 48 hours. To obtain a transit visa you must provide specific evidence of your travel arrangements from your transportation company or travel agent.

DOCUMENTS NEEDED
  1. You must provide for yourself, spouse and dependants
  2. A valid passport or travel document or identity document that guarantees re-entry to the country that issued it
  3. Three recent passport size photos for each family member (the name and date of birth of the person should be written on the back of each photo); and
  4. Evidence to confirm the purpose of visit. This may include letters of invitation and support from friends of relatives in Canada or from business associates.
  5. Letter from employer or school granting you holiday or leave of absence.
  6. Evidence of funds in your name or evidence of support available for expenses while in Canada as well as proof of funds to leave Canada (bank statements, bankbooks, income tax papers, business registration, balance sheet Etc.) The Canadian embassy does not accept cash, travellers cheques or credit cards as proof of funds.
  7. Please provide as applicable a copy of your sponsor's immigration document (Record of landing, Citizenship card, Canadian Passport), last years notice of assessment from Revenue Canada, copies of business Correspondence, contracts, shipments, orders, invoices, etc.
  8. Children under 18 travelling without one or both parents or legal guardian must provide a notarised authorisation for travel signed by both parents or the parents not travelling. The authorisation should also be available for presentation at the port of entry to Canada.
  9. Please provide only photocopies of all documents
  10. The Canadian High Commission does not accept additional pages inserted into passports. If you do not have a blank page to affix a visa, a new passport must be obtained before submitting your application
