Visas to join husband/wife/ Parents
DOCUMENTS/FORMS TO BE SUBMITTED

  1. Two white forms "Application for a Residence Permit", duly filled in and signed by the applicant
  2. 4 passport-sized photographs
  3. Proof of Marriage
1. If Marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954: then the following need to be submitted:
  1. Marriage Certificate
  2. Proper Birth Certificate under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1969, if the applicant was born on 01.04.1971 or later.or,
  3. if birth occured before 01.04.1971 and a birth certificate cannot be issued and a later registration is not possible: Certificate of Non-Traceability of Entry in Birth Register/Not-Found-Certificate and
  4. Matriculation Certificate or Middle School Board Certificate or School Leaving Certificate containing the date of birth
  5. Divorce Judgement and Decree, if applicable
2. After religious Marriage according to Hindu rites and registration under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 (HMA):
  1. Marriage Certificate registered under the HMA
  2. Religious Marriage Certificate of the temple (Mandir)/Gurudwara
  3. Photographs of the wedding
  4. If one of the spouses did not belong to the Hindu religion before the marriage: Conversion Certificate, duly signed by the party, and an Affidavit of voluntary conversion by free will and not under duress etc.
  5. Proper Birth Certificate under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1969, if the applicant was born on 01.04.1971 or later. or,
  6. If birth occured before 01.04.1971 and a birth certificate cannot be issued and a later registration is not possible: Certificate of Non-Traceability of Entry in Birth Register/Not-Found-Certificate and
  7. Matriculation Certificate or Middle School Board Certificate or School Leaving Certificate containing the date of birth
  8. Divorce Judgement and Decree, if applicable
3. After Marriage under Shariat Law:
  1. Nikahnama (signed by the Qazi) with a translation into English
  2. if the husband did not belong to the Islam religion before the marriage: Conversion Certificate, duly signed by the party, and an Affidavit of voluntary conversion by free will and not under duress etc.
  3. Proper Birth Certificate under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1969, if the applicant was born on 01.04.1971 or later.
  4. or, if birth occured before 01.04.1971 and a birth certificate cannot be issued and a later registration is not possible: Certificate of Non-Traceability of Entry in Birth Register/Not-Found-Certificate and
  5. Matriculation Certificate or Middle School Board Certificate or School Leaving Certificate containing the date of birth
  6. Divorce Judgement and Decree, if applicable
4. After Marriage under the Christian Marriage Act:
  1. Marriage Certificate issued by the vicar/priest who solemnised the marriage
  2. Photographs of the wedding
  3. Proper Birth Certificate under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1969, if the applicant was born on 01.04.1971 or later.or,
  4. If birth occured before 01.04.1971 and a birth certificate cannot be issued and a later registration is not possible: Certificate of Non-Traceability of Entry in Birth Register/Not-Found-Certificate and
  5. Matriculation Certificate or Middle School Board Certificate or School Leaving Certificate containing the date of birth
  6. Divorce Judgement and Decree, if applicable
For the above mentioned cases (1-4), the following additional documents may be required:
  1. Current valid Ration Card of the bridgedoom's/bride's familiy with English translation showing the relationship between the persons mentioned. The Ration Card should cover at least the last 2 years.
  2. Affidavits by the parents of the Indian spouse and the sarpanch stating date of birth and civil status before the marriage. These affidavits should not be older than 6 months! It should either be stated before a Magistrate or be confirmed by him.
  3. Affidavits of the spouses about number and age of the biological and/or adopted children (should the wife be expecting a child, kindly also state)
  4. Certificate of Residence or Residence Permit of the spouse living in Germany
The application is forwarded by the Embassy to the competent Foreign Registration Office in Germany for their consideration. It may be that the German Authorities wish the Indian documents to be verified. Then the spouse living in Germany or the authorized lawyer has to declare that the cost of the verification (present up to 750 Euro) will be borne by the applicants.

Verification of Indian documents and necessary authentications/attestations by the Indian authorities:

The documents submitted have to be presented to the Embassy in original with English translation. A translation into German is not necessary.

All Indian documents/certificates have to be attested as follows:

1. Deputy Commissioner or District Magistrate In New Delhi the Subdivisional Magistrate (SDM)

2. the State Government of the issuing Authority, Dep. of Home Affairs, in Punjab known as "Overseas Indians Cell"

3. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Consular Section, Patiala House, New Delhi. Documents with the stamp "Seen in the Consular Section" cannot be accepted. The correct authentication is: "The Signature of Secretary/Additional Secretary/Deputy Secretary/Under Secretary/Ass. Secretary/Section Officer of the State Government attested."

Matriculation/Middle School Certificates issued by a "State Education Board" have to be attested by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of Education, Shastri Bhawan) followed by the MEA.

School Leaving Certificates are to be authenticated by the District Education Officer followed by the procedure mentioned under no. 1-3.
