Study Visa Law
South Africa, in recognition of the importance of the cross-cultural and academic stimulation permits the admission of a limited number of foreign students. Prospective students are encouraged to apply and await the outcome of a Study-Permit application in their own country.
  1. Study-Permits are issued on the condition that
    1. no foreign student may displace a South African student at a local institution.
    2. that the student will guarantee his / her departure on completion.
    3. must be proficient in English or South African official language.
  2. Study-Permits are issued only for one year and may be extended (with documentary proof) in South Africa.
  3. Study-Permit holders are not permitted to take up employment after completion of their studies.
Documents to be submitted
  1. Application forms: BI-159 A and F, and BI-806 (IM - 13)
  2. Proof of Educational qualifications.
  3. A motivation as to why the studies have to be pursued in South Africa and cannot be undertaken in the applicant's own country.
  4. Proof that the applicant is financially in a position to pay tuition fees and has adequate means of support.
  5. Letter from the school / Institution in South Africa confirming admission to the course, duration of the course, fees paid and proof of registration.
  6. Repatriation guarantee from the Institution.
  7. A copy of contract between the school and pupil explaining all the aspects related to accommodation, medical, etc.
  8. Medical Report (BI-811).
  9. Both parents consent on stamped paper. (If a minor)
  10. Cash deposit for repatriation purpose in form of DD payable to South African High Commission of Rs 40,000 (Refundable).
  11. Passport must be valid for at least one year.
