| HIGHLIGHTS OF RAILWAY BUDGET 2009- 10 |
|
- Fares of AC First Class, AC two tier, AC three tier and AC Chair Car cut by two per cent in view of the economic recession
- 43 new trains to start in 2009-10, extension of 14 trains envisaged and frequency of 14 trains to be increased
- Two per cent cut in fares above Rs 50 in all trains.
- Feasibility studies are on for running bullet trains between Delhi-Amritsar, Ahmedabad-Pune, Hyderbada-Vijaywada- Chennai, Chennai-Bangalore, Delhi-Patna, Kolkata-Haldia and Ernakulam-Howrah
- Dedicated freight corridor from Ludhiana to Kolkata to be inaugurated later this month.
- Railway is expected to show a surplus of Rs 18,847 crore in the next fiscal.
- Due to implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, Railways are expected to incur an additional burden of Rs 9,000 crore on salaries and Rs 4,500 crore on pensions
- Freight loading target retained at 850 mt ; number of passengers likely to grow by around 7% over previous year.
- Agartala, the capital of the Tripura, connected by railway line.
- Steps to have railway connectivity to Kashmir initiated. The railway line between Anantnag and Rajwansher in Kashmir valley will be extended to Qazigund in four months.
- Rail accidents have reduced from 325 to 194 in past 5 years
- Railways to invest Rs 2.3 lakh crore over next 5 years
- Electrification of 1000 km of rail lines completed in '08-'09
- Wagon production to be hiked from 6600 to 15000 per year.
- Budgeted Operating Ratio 89.9%
- Four Railway enquiry call centres to be set up.
- Dividend payable to General Revenues kept at Rs 4,711 cr and Revised plan outlay kept at Rs 36,773 cr.
