Queen's University (B.A., 1990) and the University of Toronto (LL.B., 1993)


He began his legal career in Toronto with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, where he practiced civil litigation and was then a Crown Attorney
Later, he was litigation counsel and an acting manager in the Enforcement Department of the securities regulator now known as the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (formerly the Investment Dealers Association of Canada)
Brian joined Burchells LLP in 2001 upon his return to Halifax from practising law in Toronto
A partner and a member of the Litigation Practice Group at Burchells LLP
He concentrates his practice in commercial litigation and administrative law. He is a member of the Ontario bar (1995) and the Nova Scotia bar (1996)
Has experience in the civil courts; administrative tribunals; and the criminal courts
In addition to expertise in regard to business disputes, he is knowledgeable in regard to several regulated fields, particularly securities, financial products and services, and access to information
A regular speaker and writer for both local and national legal education conferences and publications, including contributing chapters to the national Annual Review of Civil Litigation Active in the Canadian Bar Association, both locally and nationally, and has served as an instructor at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University
